Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) and Bharti Airtel are betting big on technologies like machine learning to automate their networks and transform it into ‘self-healing networks’ to offer better customer experience. Both telcos are also cloudifying their respective core networks to be ready for 5G technology.

Airtel is making a lot of investment in the area of automation and orchestration and is also working with a lot of partners, it’s newly appointed chief technology officer, Randeep Sekhon told ET.

“Our real journey is to make a self-healing network, which means it should be able to predict a fault and should be able to fix it before it starts to impact the customer experience,” he added.

VIL’s chief technology officer Vishant Vora separately told ET that the telco is building additional capabilities through the integration of network and IT that is also transforming billing and provisioning.

“All of that comes through putting in things like Machine learning, which I call machine intelligence, based on lots of analytics and data, and making sure network itself has the intelligence to act on its own but always assisted by a human being,” Vora added.

Vora said that VIL is cloudifying its entire core network, which is now very much similar to a 5G core network and gives the telco flexibility to offer new services. “We can offer many 5G capabilities now on our 4G network because we have modernized our core network.”

Airtel’s Sekhon said that the telco is now introducing a lot more optics to its transport network, and has moved the core network to the cloud. “We are evolving the entire network knowing that there will a 5G network and there will huge data volumes.”

Vodafone Idea is currently in the process of merging two networks and has a plan to exit more than 90,000 sites to cut on duplication and reduce capital and operational expenditure. Having finished integration in nine circles, VIL is now aiming to finish the integration by June 2020. It had provided a three-year outlook for integration at the time of the merger.

“We are making massive investments in networks. It is a great opportunity for us to put in future proof technologies…we are going to have a very large scale deployment of massive mimo. It's a 5G technology being put in the 4G network and will give a lot of capacity. That actually helps create better throughout and user experience for all our data clients in 4G,” Vora said.

Airtel, on the other hand, is building coverage and capacity to improve its 4G services. Sekhon said that Airtel is adding more spectrum for 4G in metro circles, and will soon finish its 900Mhz 4G project in ten circles.

Airtel has liberalized spectrum which is being converted into 4G. It has also started work on the 2100 MHz band where at least one carrier can be refarmed for 4G, Sekhon said.

Why to perform drive testing and what are the types of drive testing in mobile network?  Transform any Android smartphone into mobile network testing tools to identify primary user experience (QoE) issues such as zones with no network coverage, dropped calls, low data speeds, poor video user experience and high latency etc. Perform Voice call, SMS, upload and download speed tests, HTTP, cell availability, video streaming using RantCell app and get KPIs reports. For example; 4G LTE speed test, VoLTE test, CSFB, SRVCC KPIs. For data sheet on KPIs and Network parameters. Voice and Data services are the basic service for any carriers in the mobile network so drive test is the best possible solution in the telecom industry in order to collect signal strength, mobile network latency of the network. Drive test is conducted for checking coverage and quality of the cellular network signal, mobile network latency, voice/data services, user QoE and check the perfo...
Scope of Node.js Developers are in demand across the world, but Node.js developers seem to be getting all the attention; so much so that among the top ten most in-demand jobs, the number of jobs for Node.js developers alone has increased by around 2500% How does Node.js fare with other technologies? According to Node Source, the total number of Node.js downloads increased by 49% in the last one year. The use of Node.js in production has increased dramatically since its release in 2010. With early adopters such as LinkedIn, Paypal, and other tech companies, Node.js has seen an exponential increase in its use in web development.                                                      Source: Node Source Report...
